The
IHA Inline Hockey Skills Award Scheme was initially devised
as a means of evaluating the abilities of children in a club
environment and then to provide a structured, progressive
format for the participants' skill development. The Scheme
was so successful that it was extended to Local Authority
Sports Development Units and Community Youth Groups to take
children off the street and to provide them with an opportunity
to learn about and play the sport in a safe environment. To
date over 500 children have passed through the earlier levels
of the Scheme.
The
Scheme consists of 10 levels and within each of the levels
are 10 skills based around the 4 basic skills elements of
the sport: skating, stick handling, passing and shooting.
Level 1 goes back to grass roots skills and assumes the participant
has no knowledge of the sport. Each succeeding level is then
classed as 'progressively more challenging'. For a FREE download
of an information sheet which covers the skills in the Scheme
and details of the principle of how the skills become 'progressively
more challenging' click here
The
scheme is run in conjunction with the National Governing Body
for puck Hockey, GB
Hockey Inline and information about the Scheme is
also posted on the Inline Division section of the World Governing
Body, the International
Ice Hockey Federation, under the Education heading.
As
participants complete the levels their success is recorded
in a personal Record of Achievement Booklet and they can obtain
colour coded sew-on badges and certificates in recognition
of their achievement.
