GBHI registers all member clubs on Skills Award Scheme.

GBHI has registered on the IHA Inline Hockey Skills Award Scheme on behalf of its member clubs. The immediate benefit to all clubs is that they will be able to participate in the Scheme at around 50% of the usual start up costs. Stella Capel, Chairman of GBHI commented “By registering on the Scheme on behalf of all our clubs, GBHI has shown its commitment to developing the sport through our clubs and this is another benefit of being a GBHI member. It will provide immediate benefit for the clubs who run teams up to the U.16 age group but also provides an opportunity for our clubs who only have U.18 and Senior teams to use the resource to start up teams at the younger age groups.” Phil Worthington GBHI National Development Manager who devised the Scheme added “To date over 500 children have already passed through the earlier levels of the Scheme and it is fast becoming an industry standard.” The Scheme has 10 levels with 10 skills to complete with each level. The earlier levels go back to grass root skills and are a perfect introduction to newcomers to the sport. The later levels introduce a difficulty element and also combine the skills into drills and are a good test of experienced players abilities. By utilising GBHI’s existing qualified coaches the Scheme will be developed through schools and Local Authority Sports Development departments and a series of coaching qualification programs are planned throughout the country which will be aimed at Local Authority sports centre staff and community groups to allow them to have direct involvement in the running of the Scheme in their own area. The new GBHI Development Centre at Bowlers, Trafford Park , Manchester will start the scheme on 27th March 2001 with sessions from 5-6pm, 6-7pm and 7-8 pm. Each session is limited to 15 players and the course will last 5 weeks and cost £15 per player. Participants receive badges and certificates as they go through the Scheme to record their achievements. GBHI clubs can take advantage of this offer by emailing gbhi@ihsas.com for further information on the costs. The club’s name should be entered in the ‘subject’ box. Non GBHI clubs who want further information about joining GBHI should contact Stella at stella@gbinline.com and non member clubs wanting further information about the Scheme should email info@ihsas.com
